Tea grown on Mt Everest
Rising from 5,900 to 8,900 feet above sea level, Bhakanje and Kanchanjangha Tea Estates are rooted in Nepal’s most breathtaking Himalayan landscapes—each producing teas as distinctive as the mountains they call home.
Bhakanje Tea Estate – Solukhumbu, Nepal
Tucked deep in the heart of Solukhumbu, not far from the base of Everest, Bhakanje Tea Estate tells a story of resilience and vision. In 1998, Janaki Khadka began her work with the Himalayan Project Nepal (HIPRON), committed to empowering her community through sustainable development. Today, she stands as Nepal’s first female tea maker and the estate’s factory manager. Her signature Everest Black Tea is a reflection of both place and purpose—bold, pure, and shaped by the soaring peaks that surround her.
Kanchanjangha Tea Estate – Eastern Nepal
Nestled in the shadow of Mt. Kanchanjangha, the world’s third-highest mountain, Kanchanjangha Tea Estate sits at the crossroads of tradition and terroir—near Nepal’s famed Ilam region and bordering the tea gardens of Darjeeling, India. The estate spans elevations of 4,200 to 6,000 feet, where misty hills, rocky soils, and cool mountain air create the perfect stress conditions for deeply aromatic, complex teas. Though the tea bushes here are still “young” at 40–50 years old, they yield nuanced flavors shaped by altitude, mineral-rich soils, and centuries of Himalayan tea culture. Every harvest is a reflection of nature’s extremes and the quiet care of those who tend the land.
