The history of Earl Grey dates back to the 1830s when Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl of Grey and British Prime Minister, was gifted a unique tea blend by a Chinese diplomat. The tea, infused with bergamot oil, was said to have been created to complement the soft water at his estate. Over time, the blend became known as “Earl Grey,” becoming a favorite of the British aristocracy and a staple in tea culture.
